Realtek ALC 888: A common eight channel sound chip (picture: PCGH)
On the PCGH servers - for logged in users - or on the Realtek website the HD audio driver version 2.09 is available for download. The update is available for Windows XP and Windows Vista; the files contain drivers for the 32 Bit and the 64 Bit versions of the operating systems. The Linux driver is still available in version 5.07, which hasn't been updated since mid August.
All Realtek HD audio chips, which are common on many motherboards and in many notebooks, are supported. You can either download the driver from the
official homepage (often slow FTP) or, as a registered user, from our servers.
The Realktek HD Audio Manager offers many settings and options
The sound specialist still offer a beta version of the 3D Sound Back Utility, which is able to preserve or reactive 3D sound effects like Surround, reverb and stereoscopic effects of older games under Windows Vista. Since it is a beta version, the use is allowed at one's own risk only. You should backup your important files before using the software.
