Microsoft releases a Windows for Cloud Computing.
Cloud Computing promises a more flexible handling of software to those companies that don’t want to run the software themselves, but trust in the recourses of the provider. Programs and applications aren’t run locally but on a network. In theory this makes a more efficient use possible and also provides possibilities to lower costs.
According to Ray Ozzie, Chief Software Architect at Microsoft, companies can choose if they want to use Cloud based internet services or if they want to install the applications on their own servers. A combination of the two approaches could also be possible with Windows Azure.
The Microsoft Online Services provide a subscription solution for business related software that is hosted by Microsoft and distributed by partners. Some of them are Exchange Online, Sharepoint Online, Dynamics CRM Online, Office Communications Online and Live Meeting.
