Author: Thilo Bayer (Oct 16, 2008) - Core i7 at PCGH: We got some new toys in the PCGH Test Lab. Intel supplied us with a Nehalem kit that contains two Core i7 CPUs a X58 motherboard, DDR3 memory and two CPU coolers.

Sometimes Christmas is in mid October: That’s how the PCGH editors felt when the postman delivered an inconspicuous packet from Intel. The contents:

- Two different Core i7 CPUs
- Two CPU coolers (the new Boxed cooler and the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme)
- An X58 motherboard from Intel
- 3x DDR3 1066 1 GiByte DIMMs from Qimonda

In the Intel internal Technology Blog Bill Calder wrote that Core i7 processors will be officially introduced in November. Up to now we cannot say when we will be allowed to publish reviews of the Core i7. Nevertheless some websites already offer their test results.

On the next pages you can see all the important hardware components and we explain the most interesting features. You can also just take a look at the pictures in our gallery.

the ram isn't much closer to the socket then on other x58 boards (when compairing to so775, remember the bigger size and increased mountinghole-distances for lga1366) and the closest ram-slot is the one u probably wont use anyway.
also northbridge and vr coolers are as close - so either everything or nothing will cause problems.

That Intel X58 RAM is positioned awkwardly.
Won't it cause problems with bulky/big CPU coolers?

Hope to see those i7 benchmarks soon.
