Windows 7 is the official name of the Vista successor

Author: Gerold Pejril (Oct 14, 2008) - Rumors about Microsoft’s Vista successor have been spread on the internet for quite some time. Now Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President for Windows Product Management, disposed one of them once and for all.
Windows 7 is now the official name for the Vista successor.
Windows 7 is now the official name for the Vista successor.
Nash announced that the official name for the Vista successor, known under several codenames like Blackcomb, Vienna and finally Windows 7, will be Windows 7.

He wrote that The decision to use the name Windows 7 is about simplicity. Over the years, we have taken different approaches to naming Windows. We've used version numbers like Windows 3.11, or dates like Windows 98, or "aspirational" monikers like Windows XP or Windows Vista. And since we do not ship new versions of Windows every year, using a date did not make sense. […] Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore "Windows 7" just makes sense.

The Microsoft representative also wrote that they would released additional information about Windows 7 in the coming weeks – well, we are anxious to see what Microsoft is coming up with.
