Video game meets cinema - Those games will (possibly) hit the screen

Author: Kristoffer Keipp (Oct 13, 2008) - Over the past couple of years several video games have been adopted by the film industry. Our colleagues at Widescreen Vision took a closer look at the matter and give an overview over the video games that possibly or definitely will hit the screen in 2009 or 2010.
Video game meets cinema: You should keep an eye on those games.
Video game meets cinema: You should keep an eye on those games.
Since the early 90s video games have been transferred to the theaters already. But often those movies had been poor adaptations of a successful license product. Most of those movies hadn't been worth the time spent on watching them, but in 2001 Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (staring Angelina Jolie) was more or less broadly accepted by both, the film critiques and the gamers. Since 2002, every year at least one big video game was morphed into a cinema movie. Among them: Resident Evil (2002), House of the Dead (2003), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Doom (2005), Silent Hill (2006) and Hitman (2007).

Of course the requirements of video games and movies are not always fully compatible and there are still game adaptations that are regarded to be unspeakably poor by the gamers. A name often connected to such controversial films is Uwe Boll. The director is sometimes referred to as one of the world's most incapable movie makers. Nevertheless he is again responsible for bringing a popular video game to the theaters. The game in question: Far Cry (staring Till Schweiger).

But Far Cry and Max Payne aren't the only video games that will take the step from the consoles or the PC to the movies. On the next pages we give some examples for games that (possibly) will hit the screens in 2009 or 2010. Additional information can be found in the Widescreen Vision article (German language!).
