The additional copper in the layers for voltage feed and ground will, according to Gigabyte, enable the new P45 and P43 motherboards with “Ultra Durable 3” technology to receive lower temperatures and higher overclocking results. In a presentation send to technical writers Asrock argues that their own P45 board, the P45TS, would stay cooler than new “Ultra Durable 3” series, even without additional copper. For a direct comparison Asrock refers to a picture from a Gigabyte presentation that shows one of Gigabyte’s new board with the additional copper reaching a maximal temperature of 125° C in the area of the CPU voltage converters (obviously without cooling of the voltage converters). Asrock on the other hand says that they reach only 94.3° C with a P45TS.

Only some months ago there had been a brawl between Gigabyte and Asrock’s parent company Asus, when Gigabyte alleged Asus of copying some ideas and got sued for this assertion by Asus.
