Better graphics with Collector's Edition

Sacred 2: Default textures versus Elite Graphics

Author: Marc Sauter (Sep 29, 2008) - The Collector's Edition of Sacred 2 doesn't just come with a lot of bonus material, but also offers the "Elite Graphics” DVD that enhance the texture quality. We took some comparative screenshots for you.
If you own the Collector's Edition of Sacred 2, you can enjoy the high-res textures. But they "cost” a lot: Sacred 2 already requires 12 GiByte on the hard drive and the Elite GFX textures add another 9 GiByte and instead of 400 MiByte VRAM they require 600 MiByte. Therefore the system requirements were adjusted:

Sacred 2: Die CE verlangt nach mehr Grafikpower
Sacred 2: Die CE verlangt nach mehr Grafikpower

After the installation of the Elite Graphics DVD the option "Elite” is added to the texture quality options. We made some comparative pictures on a Radeon HD 4870 (1,024 MiByte VRAM). Because our version doesn't support quick saving and quick loading yet, our shots aren't absolutely identical, since we had to walk to the appropriate locations every time.

At the moment we cannot give any comments about the performance of the game, since we haven't had the Day-One-Patch. The Radeon HD 4870 reached between 20 to 45 fps at 1.680 x 1.050 with 4x anti aliasing and 16:1 AF. On the next pages you can find our comparative screenshots.

Unfortunately the size of the Mouseover pictures is limited because of technical reasons. But in the picture gallery we normally put the originally sized screenshots.

Interesting, but I'd like to see these compared at the original resolution. It's difficult to make out any differences in the cropped size these have been presented in.

Yes there is a difference. If you take a look at the first comparitve picture for example, pay attention to the stone objects on the left side. There you will see the difference.

Indeed. Only difference (visible) is slightly sharper and less smudged textures.

If it runs that slow on a 4870 at 1680x1050 I had to see it on my 8800GTX... damn the 8800GTX is slowly dying

I think the 8800GTX is still going strong. Unless of course if you play with AA and really high res. But, like you said, it's one of the best GPU investments ever. On my 9800XT i could play for 3 years almost max everything, and even now it can hold a bit (only overheating issue though :/).
