Intel's Haswell will have eight cores[br]

First details about Intel’s 22 nanometer CPU Haswell

Author: (Aug 14, 2008) - The Intel Developers Forum 2008 will take place in San Francisco next week. Our editor Raffael Vötter is going to be on site. Today we already see the first piece of information about Intel’s 22 nanometer CPU.

Currently Intel takes the step from the recently upgraded 45 nanometer Penryns to the new micro architecture Nehalem. Now there are details about the next generation codename Haswell. With only 22 nanometers it is supposed replace the Ivy bridge processor by 2011.

According to golem, Haswell will have eight cores and a new cache design. Furthermore Intel wants to combine the commands “Multiply” and “Add” as they did with “Compare” and “Jump” in the Core architecture. Multiply-Add-loops are often used to display the theoretical power of calculation units in FLOPS. The combined function is called “Fused Multiply Add” or “FMA” and could theoretically deliver benefits in accuracy and data throughput.

Additional information should be available in some days.
