Athlon 64 X2 6000+ now available with 3.1 Gigahertz

The updating of AMD’s dual core CPUs is going on for quite some time already. The models 5200+, 5400+ and 5600+ with 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9 Gigahertz had been dealt with some months ago already. Now the top-dog, the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ was upgraded, too. In addition to the smaller production architecture, AMD increased the core clock speed by 100 MHz to 3.1 GHz. But the L2 cache was reduced from 2x 1,024 KiByte to 2x 512 KiByte. The TDP was lowered, too. The new revision of the CPU needs only 89 watts while the older version needed up to 125 watts.

It remains to be seen if the performance of the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ was affected by the changes.
