Core i7 follows the Core 2 generation

Intel's Nehalem will officially be called Core i7 - says Expreview

Author: (Aug 08, 2008) - The processor, codename Bloomfield, scheduled for Q4 2008 will hit the markets as Core i7.

Expreview wants to have learned that Intel will introduce brand and logotype next Monday. The black version will once again represent the Extreme Edition while the normal processors will bear the blue logo.

But not only the Bloomfield processors, but all future CPUs based on the Nehalem architecture will run by the new name. Therefore Lynnfield and Havendale - expected in 2009 - are said to be called i7, too.
