Author: Carsten Spille (Aug 04, 2008) - After it been quiet for a while, Fairlight reappear with an acoustically and optically appealing intro demo. But even more impressive is that the guys were able to squeeze all the data into a file of 64 KiByte.

The specialists show, at the expense of high system requirements and an enormous precalculation time, how efficient one can pack an incredible mass of effects and a driving soundtrack into a tiny file. You can download it at Scene.org - two screenshots and a readme file inflate the archive to 154.8 KiByte, while the demo itself is, as mentioned, only 64 KiByte big.

You can watch a high quality flash version right here or, as a registered user, download a 720p video from our servers.

More than 400 shaders, procedural textures and a full, dynamic illumination system with Screen Space Ambient Occlusion and real-time shadows round off the optics.

The 3D effects that are used are, among others:
• Film Grain
• Procedural Textures
• Depth of Field
• Parallax Mapping
• Specular Mapping
• Focal Length
• Reflections and Refraction
• Underwater Caustics
• "God-Rays" (raymarched)
But all this isn't for free: You need at least a PS/VS 3.0 compatible card - Fairlight recommends a HD 2600 or an 8600 GT. And additionally a up-to-date Dual Core CPU and DirectX 9 for Windows XP.
