Powercolor HD48x0 with 1 Gigabyte VRAM

Powercolor releases the first HD 4870 (OC) with 1 GiByte

Jul 18, 2008 16:13 - Since AMD's Radeon HD 4800 series can only be called extremely successful, Powercolor is the first producer to take advantage of the situation and releases a overclocked HD 4870 with one Gigabyte video memory and an own cooling system.
Powercolor gave the first pictures of the card to PCGH exclusively.

In our reviews the Radeon HD 4870 was able to do very well and beat the more expensive Geforce GTX 260 several times. Fans of the Radeon series have to be patient for some time though, before the first AMD partner was able to deliver the first custom design HD 4870.

In addition to a full Gigabyte GDDR5 memory, the Powercolor HD 4870 PCS OC has an individual cooling system based on the Zerotherm model. This, according to the producer, works up to 20° Celsius better than AMD's default system - regardless of the increased GPU clock speeds (800 MHz) that is.

Additional information can be found at Powercolor. Until now there is no officially confirmed information about price, release date or final clock speeds.

Powercolor ist not the only one to have a HD 4870 with 1 GiByte VRAM. Sapphire and Gecube each offer a similar card, too, but they both use the default cooler and are not available in Europe, yet.

Any further news or insights now that this card seems to be coming very soon?

i am in Australia and have found the card listed for release tomorrow at 5 different online stores.

it will retail at ~$415AUD and is said to have the core overclocked to 850MHz and the memory overclocked to 950MHz (3.8Gbps)

this is the description at one of the stores...
POWERCOLOR 4870 1GB 1024MB PCS+ OVERCLOCKED 800/3800Mhz

So far this is the only 4870 with 1Gb _and_ a non-reference cooler that i can see on the horizon.

surely more will follow?? im happy to buy this one but i would love an update about it
