New at the PCGH Test Lab: Foxconn Black Ops - X48 board for overclockers

Author: Daniel Möllendorf (May 29, 2008) - New clock speed records in our Test Lab? Today a sample of Foxconn's Black Ops motherboard arrived at our editorial office. Professional Overclocker Shamino was involved in the development. So the board might be expected to work for advanced and extreme overclocking experiments.

For the Black Ops, Foxconn used Intel's X48 chipset and a digital CPU voltage feed with eight phases. The first two PCI-E slots are connected with 16 lanes each, the third slot is equipped with only four lanes, as it is common with X48 boards. Overclocker's delight: Diagnostic LEDs, Power and Reset switches, as well as a Clear CMOS switch are placed directly on the board. The cooling system is unique up to now. It is able to operate in passive or active mode or can be integrated into a watercooling system. But most interesting is the possibility to use dry ice for cooling. You can find further details and additional info in the picture gallery below.
